Letter July 29, 1903 “My Dears: No letter from you today which I regret. It has been cloudy most of the day and warm and muggy. Very disagreeable. Catherine came down just as my lesson was over and wanted me to go to lunch at the Club. She went downtown and did some errands and then I met her at Club at 12:30 then we each went our separate abodes. Nice lunch – clams, chicken patties, pudding etc… Hattie + Kit and perhaps Bessie B are coming down to lesson tomorrow AM. Mrs. Robinson is coming to play for me, then the Kilmers want me to go with them to “Luna Park” Coney Island and I guess I will.”

Luna Park had a grand opening at Coney Island in May 1903 and was a much talked about event when Edith went out that late July. You can read more on it here, the Brooklyn Historical Society blog. The humidity must have been getting to her or she was downplaying to her parents the fun in store for her when she writes very dryly about agreeing to go out to the new festivities.
