An Evening Out, 1895 Vienna

I have had a great time reading period newspapers online hosted by the National Library of Austria. Oftentimes when dealing with history we might think so much has changed for the better or not. I happen to think things are more often very similar, just maybe packaged differently. I couldn’t help but notice all the advertisements and cartoons in the vintage newspapers that depicted women getting ready for an evening out.

Corsets! Yikes. You could lose a rib this way.

She is all tied in, but not looking so happy.

Now it is time to curl the hair with the latest technology.
